Our Cross-Country Adventure – Day 3

This day started the night before. I went outside around 9:00 pm and photographed the partial full moon.

The next morning was a not-so-early start. We slept a little later and were on the road about 9 am. Today was a distinct contrast to yesterday. Yesterday was the beauty and the thrill of driving through the mountains of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Today started with some hilly country but quickly changed to miles and miles of endless corn fields. The car did all the driving, but it was still boring. There was nothing to photograph until after we arrived in Lawrenceburg, IN. We went to the Lawrenceburg River Walk which is a paved walkway along the Ohio River.

We walked along the river to the Lawrenceburg Bicentennial Monument (1802-2002). We saw the beauty of the Monument and the bronze figures, steel structures and the two large clocks. We also saw the bike sharing program that the city uses.

We also saw the Lawrenceburg Bike Share Station. We also saw a floating restaurant on the Ohio River as well as a very large powerplant.

We also saw the spot where Abraham Lincoln made a pre-inaugural speech on February 12, 1861.

The temp was very hot – 88 degrees so we didn’t walk as long as we would have liked but it was a great experience all the same. We saw a tugboat pushing barges of sand along the river. We had our second chance in Florence, KY and were able to see another tugboat pushing barges on the Ohio River.
