Before I get started, I failed to mention that yesterday we moved from Mountain Standard Time to Central Standard Time. It’s weird to see the time increase an hour in the space of a few feet.
Today was a very different day for us. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise that I captured through our hotel window. By the time I went downstairs and tried to photograph it, it was gone.
When we were looking for things to see in Lincoln, the capital of Nebraska, Ronnie noticed the International Quilting Museum. My first thought was ho-hum. Quilting is not my thing, but Ronnie was excited to see it, so it was on our agenda. First, we stopped at Walmart to grab some much need essentials, including a Nebraska long-sleeved t-shirt for each of us. Over the last few days, we saw so many people wearing Nebraska shirts, jackets, hats, etc. that we were inspired to have our own.
We arrived at the International Quilting Museum and the building was very impressive.
We paid our entrance fee and started touring the various galleries. I was stunned by the work. The first thing that I saw was logo image used by the museum.
The galleries were on three floors. I took more photos than I should have, and we decided to include the ones that really impressed us. Before I post them, Ronnie and I met a woman that was working on a very large quilt. We asked how long she had been working on it. She said that she started it in February. She still has a very long way to go.
So here are some of the quilts that we loved:
Finally, the story of the International Quilting Museum:
After we left the museum, we stopped for lunch at a place that we discovered yesterday. It is a chain named Runza. They make a Runza sandwich, and you can get it with different ingredients. Here is how they describe their sandwich: “Ground beef seasoned with a top-secret blend of spices and mixed with cabbage and onions. All wrapped up in fresh-baked bread. It’s the taste that generations of Midwesterners have grown up loving, and it’s our signature sandwich. Get it topped however you want – because while we make it fresh, you make it your own.” We got ours with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. It was delicious.
We continued our journey with our destination for today in Belton, Missouri. We managed to travel through three states in the span of an hour-and-a-half. We left Nebraska and found our sign in Hamburg, Iowa.
Next was Missouri. The sign was in Watson, Missouri.
In Missouri, we stopped at an information center in Rock Port. They had a cool sign inside that spanned an area too large for me to photograph. So, I photographed both sides and cut out each side in Photoshop and placed one above the other.
In Kansas City, the clouds were looking ominous and from our weather app, we knew that rain was on the way.
The rain began near Kansas City, and it really came down. We were happy that it didn’t snow. I couldn’t resist getting a photo of this cool bridge even though it was raining.
We checked into a Hampton Inn in Belton, Missouri for the night. Tomorrow, we will continue south to Springfield, Missouri and see what we can find around Ozark, MO and the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
