We have had a good ride so far. Yesterday started with fog but it cleared out and the remainder of the day was terrific.
Today, we woke up to drizzle and a temperature of 28 degrees. Our plan was to drive from Custer, South Dakota to Scott’s Bluff National Monument. We would need to charge in Sidney, Nebraska and then travel to Scott’s Bluff National Monument and then stay there for the night.
The roads were slippery with ice as we traveled the remainder of the way through South Dakota. We crossed the border into Nebraska in Chadron, Nebraska.
It was pretty much the highlight of our trip. We stopped in Chadron and had lunch at a Subway shop / convenience store. As we drove through Nebraska, we realized that it was booooring!
There was nothing to see and the drizzle and cold made driving tricky. There were several times when our full self-driving beta would shut down. It turned out the much of the front of our Tesla was covered in ice.
The highlight photo today was a freight train near Dalton, Nebraska.
The trees and the grass were also covered in ice.
The temperature didn’t moderate until we got close to our supercharging stop in Sidney, Nebraska and then it only reached 35 degrees. Along the way, we had decided not to spend the extra time to visit Scott’s Bluff National Monument as it was still drizzling and the options for a good photo did not exist.
Our second plan was to continue to North Platte, Nebraska and stay the night. We were both so tired and bored that we booked a room at a Hampton Inn in Sidney and settled in for the night. Tonight, I will try and plan our next move.
