The glitch that we had in Aurora, Colorado has been fixed and we are on the road again. We had to scuttle our plans for Mt. Rushmore but more about that later. Our new plan is to head towards Mohab, Utah so that we can make one of the two reservations that we have made on this trip. We are scheduled to check into a Sleep Inn and Suites in Mohab and Friday and stay there for three nights. We want to be there for the solar eclipse on Saturday morning. Although we will be able to see it, we will only have a 94% eclipse rather than 100%. We will take it.
We left Aurora and went around the outskirts of Denver. The mountains to the west of Denver were spectacular but not as spectacular as when we started driving into the Rockies. This report will be rich with pictures as the view was beyond description. There were plenty of oohs and aahs from Ronnie and me.
We were driving (actually the Tesla was driving) on I-70 west with our final destination being Dillon, Colorado – an hour-and-a-half from our starting point. We found a turnoff for Lookout Mountain Point and we decided to explore. We were not disappointed.
We started to notice the temperature dropping and snow on the mountain tops. When we left Aurora, it was about 71 degrees.
As we got closer to Dillon, Colorado, the rain started, and the temperature dropped. Once in Dillon, the temperature was 38 degrees and by the time that we unloaded the car at the hotel, snow started falling and we were both in shorts! Duh!!! The temperature when we wake up tomorrow will be 28 degrees. Tomorrow will be big boy pants and winter coats. Brrr!!!!
