We Will Never Forget

It has been ten years since terroristic cowards attacked the United States taking down the World Trade Center Twin Towers, crashing a plane into the Pentagon and unsuccessfully trying to highjack Flight 93. The brave passengers of that flight took matters into their own hands to make sure that the terrorists did not succeed and paid the ultimate price – the loss of their lives.

Many people lost their lives that day. They were people from all walks of life. Many were first responders who risk their lives  on a daily basis to make us safer. I have only been to the World Trade Center once in my life and it was in April of 1984. My wife, Veronica, and I were guests of her uncle, Ken Sass and his wife Eleanor. They took us to the Windows of the World for brunch to celebrate Veronica’s birthday. Ken worked for the Port Authority of New York and was able to get us to the observation platform for magnificent views of Manhattan and surrounding boroughs.

Ken lost many friends in the collapse of the towers and today is a melancholy day for his and for a lot of Americans.

The terrorists inflicted a mighty blow on the United States but what they never realized was how strong a people we are. We never gave up. We continued to fight, heal and strengthen. Terrorists believe that what they are doing is the right thing and that their religious beliefs tell them that their war needs to be inflicted upon everyone.

If what they say is true (and I think it is the way they interpret it), I feel sorry for them and their religion. It is not a religion that I would aspire to. My personal feelings are that their religion is a just religion and one that would not condone the killing of helpless people. I believe that they interpret it to suit their ends.

In any case, I remember our visit to the World Trade Center like it was yesterday. It was a magical day and we are thankful that it happened. I also remember September 11, 2001 like it was yesterday and I wish that it had never happened.

My prayers and the prayers of my family goes out to everyone who lost someone or was affected in any way by the cowardly acts committed on September 11, 2001. WE WILL NEVER FORGET AND THEY WILL NEVER WIN!

On the five year anniversary of 9/11. two banks of high wattage spotlights were used to send two towering beams to the heavens. These spotlights were positioned in a lot next to Ground Zero (below right).
