JEL-08-8268
A sea gooseberry, Pleurobrachia pileus, photographed off the coast of New Jersey, USA. The sea gooseberry is a ctenophore -- a form of gelatinous zooplankton. Unlike jellyfish, these creatures do not have stinging cells; they use their sticky tentacles to catch prey such as fish and invertebrate larvae.
