JEL-05-HS001-052
A purple jellyfish, Pelagia noctiluca, also known as the mauve stinger off the coast of New Jersey. It can grow to 15" across. It is native to our area but it is extremely rare. Typically, when it is here it is found offshore but in September, 2022, they washed up along the shore. It is a beautiful jellyfish but it has a potent sting. I have not seen them often but when I do, it is usually in large numbers.
