The steel schooner also known as the Dykes and the Five-masted Schooner on the Sea Girt Artificial Reef off Sea Girt, New Jersey, USA. A steel-hulled schooner barge built in 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is 306' long x 35'wide, weighed 2072 tons and carried a crew of 14. The Steel Schooner was sunk in 1983 as an artificial reef in 65' of water. The Steel Schooner was originally built to carry bauxite (aluminum ore) from British Guyana (in South America) for ALCOA. She changed owners many times, and finally finished her long career as an unrigged New York City "sludge barge" in the late 1950's. This artificial reef site lies slightly outside the official boundaries of the Sea Girt Artificial Reef.
